I’m pro boutique hotels. Most chain hotels tend to blend together in terms of decor, but when I stay in a boutique hotel, it’s almost always an experience to remember. These nine boutique hotels in Washington DC are not only memorable, but affordable as well.

The Best Boutique Hotels in DC

1. The LINE DC

Boutique Hotels in Washington DC

The LINE DC can be described as simple, with a flare. I love that the rooms are no frills but livened up with pops of color and print. Aesthetically, it’s one of my favorite hotels in Washington, DC. Once a neoclassical church, this hotel contains vaulted ceilings and large copper entry doors. It’s also located in a trendy neighborhood and less than 2 miles from downtown DC.

2. Kimpton Hotel Palomar

Kimpton Hotel Palomar

Kimpton Hotels never disappoint me. It’s a little hard to believe they are so affordable and yet always leave me feeling like I’m living in luxury. I’ll let you know that a few Kimpton hotels have made this list. They aren’t just some of the most affordable boutique hotels in Washington DC, but all over the world. The Palomar is less than a 5 minute walk to Dupont Circle, an area you’ll want to visit any day of the week, and has the modern vibe everyone will love.

3. The Darcy

Boutique Hotels in DC

It’s hard to hear the name “Darcy” and not think of Pride & Prejudice, but I digress. If you know you’ll be frequenting downtown DC for most of your visit, then this hotel is an excellent option. Located just a 10 minute walk to the White House and less than 5 miles from Reagan National Airport, this boutique hotel is the epitome of centrally located. You are also just a little over a mile from the National Mall, i.e. walking distance, so if you’re up for museum hopping then you’re in luck.

4. The Avery Georgetown

The Avery Georgetown

It’s quite possible to walk right past The Avery Georgetown and miss it, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth a stay. This boutique hotel is located in Georgetown, DC, one of the most popular DC neighborhoods. The affluent tend live, shop, and eat in Georgetown so that adds to this hotel feeling quite posh. It’s conveniently located near downtown DC but there are plenty of gems throughout Georgetown, such as the nearby Phillips Collection, that are worth a visit.

5. Kimpton Hotel Monaco

Kimpton Hotel Monaco

There are few hotels that look fit to house the Queen of England, and the Kimpton Hotel Monaco is one of them. Talk about feeling regal. This hotel is just feet from the Washington Convention Center which makes it perfect for those traveling to the area on business and especially those who are attending events at the convention center. The onsite restaurant and lounge give you reason to camp out in the hotel rather than leave and explore the city.

6. Eaton DC

Would your friends and family describe you as “bougie on a budget?” Well hello, new friend. Hotel Eaton DC is another conveniently located gem just blocks from Smithsonian’s and the metro. That’s DC subway transportation for those of you who don’t know. This beautifully decorated hotel offers floor to ceiling windows and an onsite restaurant with “a vegetable-forward, Asian-infused menu.” It’s perfect for those that want tasty, yet healthy, food options nearby.

7. The Normandy Hotel

The Normandy Hotel DC

The Normandy is one of the most affordable boutique hotels in Washington, DC. It’s another option located in the ever popular Dupont Circle area. This hotel is a great choice for travelers because it’s not just surrounded by a plethora of food and shopping options, but it’s near the National Zoo as well. This area is great for walking around and getting lost but also metro accessible, which means it’s easy to get to other popular areas of the city.

8. Kimpton Hotel Madera

Kimpton Hotel Madera

Ah, yes. Yet another hotel located in, you guessed it, Dupont Circle. There’s a clear theme here. Not all hotels are created equal when it comes to those traveling on business, and each room at the Kimpton Hotel Madera just happens to be decked out with a work desk. You can also expect a business center when booking this hotel which is perfect when you have things you need to print on demand or need computer access.

9. Mason & Rook Hotel

Mason & Rook Hotel

If you want to feel posh then stay at the Mason & Rook Hotel. This hotel is just minutes from the more quiet of the circles, Logan Circle. It’s surprisingly pet friendly which means you can bring your fur baby along for the excitement. This hotel, like the others, is close to the White House and other historic sites such as the Washington Monument, but it won’t be as touristy as places like Dupont Circle, Adams Morgan, etc.

These nine boutique hotels in Washington DC are not only memorable, but affordable as well.
