It seems to me that Whitefish, Montana is the land of the lodge. I’ve stayed in only one lodge prior but have learned that they are not all created equal. I recently had the pleasure of staying at two Whitefish, Montana Hotels and would definitely recommend them to those considering a visit to this town. It really all depends on the experience you’re seeking.

Kandahar Lodge
Upon my arrival in Whitefish, Montana I checked into the Kandahar Lodge, one of the most popular Whitefish, Montana hotels. It’s located just 7 miles from the town of Whitefish and directly on Whitefish Mountain.
After well over a seven hour drive from Billings, Montana, a shower and bed was definitely a sight for my sore eyes.

The first thing that stood out to me was the plush bedding that didn’t seem to be a standard, raggedy and thin duvet tossed over who knows what kind of comforter. All I could think was how much I’d love that bedding set at home to cozy up to.

It may have been the mountain air or the piping hot shower before bed, but I slept like a baby. And speaking of shower, I also appreciate that shower gel and shampoo were provided (mounted to the wall) instead of single use, travel sized products. Way to go, Kandahar Lodge!
The Ambience
The literal ambience of the Kandahar Lodge is dark due to the wood paneling and dim lighting. However, I would think that’s exactly how a lodge should be. Plus, the fire going added to that cabin in the woods feel and was the perfect vibe to come home to.

I especially enjoyed the great room that was complete with oversized leather couches, a wood burning fire place, and even a chess table.

The exterior of the lodge was more beautiful than I expected with hanging flowers and plants covering most walls. The outdoor seating that included rocking chairs was also a perfect touch for both warmer months and the cooler seasons where you just want to sit outside and enjoy the view or sunset.

The Breakfast
Breakfast was served daily in the lobby. It consisted of things like bagels and toast, yogurt, cereal, and other items that would be considered part of a continental breakfast. While it definitely did the trick, it did leave something to be desired. However, if you’re looking for something quick to hold you over until later in the day, it’s good enough.
Amenities
In addition to the Snug Bar that offers wine, cocktails, and light bites, there is Cafe Kandahar that will appeal to those looking for an upscale dining experience.
The wellness center at Kandahar Lodge boasts an outdoor jacuzzi, walk in steam room, fitness center, and even a massage treatment room. If there’s anywhere you’ll need. all of these amenities, it’s for a trip to the mountains.

Would I Stay Here Again?
Absolutely. I’m already imagining myself returning to the lodge after a day of skiing and hitting up the steam room and jacuzzi.
The close proximity of the lodge to Whitefish Mountain Resort makes it a no brainer and the perfect choice of accommodation all year round.
