What To Do In Los Angeles On Your Next Trip

Sharing is caring!

In the past I’ve shared my itinerary for how I spent four days in LA over a long weekend. Now that I’ve returned yet again to my favorite U.S. city, I wanted to share what to do in Los Angeles. I created a board to plan out my trip and it consisted of things I’ve always wanted to do in LA, and things I’ve done before. If you’re visiting LA for the 1st or 14th time, here are some things you should do:

Hiking in LA

Hiking is my favorite pastime anywhere I go. It also takes up a huge chunk of time if your itinerary is looking a little dry. During my latest trip I hiked a Griffith Observatory trail that housed an abandoned zoo thanks to my friend Tuliyani of The Willing Road. We spent over an hour hiking toward Griffith Observatory before heading back to the car.

My next hike was to Wilacre Park. Before arriving in LA I saw a twitter friend post an event link for a group hike. I decided to join in on the fun since I would be in town and luckily it was to a park I’d never been to. We hiked in one way and came out on the other side. It was mild compared to somewhere like Runyon or Griffith but the steep hills in the beginning may be tough for some.

These are some other hikes to consider if you’re in LA:

  • Runyon Canyon
  • Hollywood Sign (Canyon Drive Trail)
  • Angeles National Forest

Best Restaurants in LA to Try

These restaurants may only be on MY “best of” list, but they were on my places to try list for a reason. I didn’t get to make it to all of them but there are many more visits to LA to come.

Here are the places I put on my list to visit:

  • NOBU (Malibu) – Japanese Fusion
  • Sugarfish by Sushi Nozawa – Sushi (the nigiri is 12/10)
  • The Butchers Daughter – Plant Based Juice Bar/Smoothies/Salad
  • Tito’s Tacos – I’m only vouching for the tacos 🙂
  • Neptune’s Net – Affordable seafood option along the PCH

Beaches in LA

I technically only made it to two beaches during my trip but it didn’t matter because it was too chilly to even think of getting near water. I spent most of my time in Venice Beach watching the skateboarders at the park and walking up and down the esplanade. I also made it a point to go earlier in the day because when the sun comes out, it’s beaming on you. The boardwalk also gets much busier in the afternoon.

Malibu beach was an afterthought once I realized I wouldn’t be putting one of my new bikini’s to use, but I’m glad I ventured over after a meal one day. So here’s the list of beaches I’ve visited and would return to visit:

  • Venice Beach
  • Hermosa Beach
  • Santa Monica
  • El Matador State Beach
  • Point Dume
  • Zuma Beach

Museums in LA

I don’t usually think of museums when I think of LA, but when trying to come up with some unique things to do in Los Angeles that I’ve yet to do, museums was at the top of my list. I’ve technically been around the LACMA but never went in. At that time, I didn’t even have a desire to take a photo with the “urban lights” installation.

Here are some museums in LA that you should definitely check out:

Shopping in Los Angeles

Shopping in Los Angeles for me is more-so window shopping. I have expensive taste that I won’t be satiating just yet. However, I decided that I wanted to see what the thrift stores in the city were like because my favorite LA youtubers tend to thrift/vintage shop there. I also visited my favorite shopping areas and planned to visit a “regular” mall or two during my trip. Check out these places for good shopping in Los Angeles:

  • The Grove
  • Beverly Center
  • The Way We Wore
  • Cannonball & Tilly
  • The Left Bank
  • Timeless Treasures
