Prior to my visit to SaltBox in Whitefish, Montana, if you would’ve asked me what salt therapy was, I wouldn’t have had any idea. This increasingly popular for of therapy is well known in Europe and gaining momentum here in North America. It has dozens of benefits and the best part about it is that it’s all natural!

What is dry salt therapy?

If you’re into natural and holistic treatments, then you may want to consider dry salt therapy. In short, micro particles of salt are used to help with the following:

  • better breathing
  • healthy skin
  • heal skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis
  • bronchitis
  • asthma
  • improve physical fitness
  • promote better sleep
  • sleep apnea
  • allergies
  • cold/flu

The list could go on and on.

How does it work?

In my case, I sat in the room pictured above and the micro particles of salt were blown through vents into the room in addition to having an actual ton of salt on the floor and the lit salt wall in front of us.

While I couldn’t see the salt flying around the air, I definitely felt it when trying to breath. It actually caused me to eventually cough a bit so I was thankful to have a beverage to sip and clear my throat.

We were offered blankets to keep warm which I was grateful for because I assumed that the room would be warm.

I almost wore a bikini to our session!

We were also given heated salt bags to place on problem areas such as the neck or shoulders as well as given salt balls to use for massage purposes if need be.

I loved that my first experience with dry salt therapy was at SaltBox because I got to see all of the other services offered.

In addition to salt sessions, which can be held in the main room or a private room, they offer infrared sauna sessions, stretching classes, and various types of massages.

I was hoping to hop into the infrared sauna but I had a flight to catch and was already pushing my time limits.

In the main lobby you can find everything from salt lamps to salt deodorant. There are even Himalayan salt crystals for your bath! It’s a great way to take the experience home with you and continue to benefit from it.

Did it work?

I had absolutely no way to gauge if my therapy worked or not!

I know for sure that I was much more relaxed after my experience and that it was therapeutic for me in the sense that I felt more calm. However, part of me wished that I was having some type of skin irritation or trouble sleeping so I could say for sure whether it worked or not.

All in all it was a good experience and I would definitely try it again! I specifically want to revisit SaltBox to try out their other services too.

Have you ever tried dry salt therapy before? What were your results?

  1. I’ve been wanting to try this for a while but have never been certain it would actually work for me. Maybe I’ll do it just to see! If anything, it’s nice to just get some relaxing time

    1. I think it’s something that you have to try for yourself. I’ve heard first hand accounts of it working almost immediately for skin conditions. Try searching YouTube for experiences, hopefully a few ppl shared their stories there 🙂
